Our Story
2028 MISSION GROUP INC is a community-focused nonprofit based in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. We organize volunteer trips to repair and improve homes for low-income and vulnerable households so families can live more safely and steadily.
How We Began
We started with small neighborhood visits: patching a leaking roof, repainting a peeling wall, fitting a ramp so an older adult could move in and out more easily. Over time, more volunteers joined, local partners stepped in, and a support network formed. Our aim has stayed the same: make homes safer, warmer, and easier to live in.
The Need We See
Many families live with long-standing issues—leaks, soft floors, broken doors, poor heating, entrances that don’t work for older adults or people with disabilities. Small problems, left alone, can affect health, work, and schooling every day. A timely, practical fix can change a family’s routine and outlook.
What We Do
-
Basic safety and repair: roof patches, board replacements, door fixes, leak control, rail repairs.
-
Accessibility improvements: ramps, handrails, safer steps and pathways.
-
Finishing and refresh: painting, patching, yard cleanup, light exterior work.
-
Weather readiness: sealing gaps, replacing worn seals, improving warmth and ventilation.
All work is completed by volunteer teams guided by experienced leads, with urgent safety items prioritized first.
How We Work
-
Intake & assessment: we listen to the household, check safety, and create a task list that matches volunteer capacity.
-
Practical planning: we outline materials, time, team size, safety steps, and on-site workflow.
-
Volunteer organization: clear roles, a concise safety briefing, and tools/PPE prepared.
-
Build & check: work step-by-step, keep spaces tidy, and leave the home safe at day’s end.
-
Handover & follow-up: final check, simple care instructions, and notes for local partners if further help is needed.
Volunteer Experience
No prior experience is required. Volunteers receive basic instruction, safe tool use guidance, and work in small teams. What matters most is care, respect, patience, and a willingness to learn and contribute.
Safety First
Every trip follows a safety plan: tool orientations, personal protective equipment, organized work areas, responsible material handling, and named team leads. When serving older adults, children, or people with special needs, we apply appropriate supervision standards and clear conduct expectations.
Local Collaboration
We partner with community groups, nonprofits, suppliers, and local businesses. Partners help us identify priority households, provide essential materials at reasonable cost, and continue support after volunteer teams leave. This coordination helps resources reach the right place at the right time.
